Wouldn’t it be great? You know, if you could have more control over your day? If you could get more productive, achieve more, and enjoy more happiness?

Sound hard? Not so fast. It’s totally possible, and it’s called a “morning ritual”. Scientists and some of the most successful people in history have known this for centuries. Creating a morning ritual is one of the most powerful ways to transform not just your morning, but your life.

I personally discovered this when the heat on my career was rising inside a pressure cooker. From the second my eyes opened in the morning, to the time they closed at night, I was stressed. “What if” scenarios plagued my existence. I was tense 24/7. I was impatient with the people who supported me the most.

The way in which you start your day defines how the rest will pan out. That’s when I discovered meditation; incorporating just 20 minutes of it into my morning routine. I was absolutely blown away at how this simple act transformed my entire life.

It’s important to note that my job was NO less stressful. It’s how I DEALT with it that made all the difference – approaching each day with calmness, peace, and tranquility in my head and heart. When I came home to my husband and kids at night, I could focus all my attention on them.

If my day starts off on a high note, I have more energy and patience for whatever the day may have in store. I am a firm believer in “the power of the habit”, which is why I was so quickly intrigued by Tim Ferris’ 5 Morning Rituals. This man is renowned for his productivity and success. Seeing as his morning rituals looked so easy, I just had to give them a shot.

And the rest, as they say, is history:

1. Make your bed

I never used to make my bed first thing in the morning. However, since I made it a part of my morning ritual, every single day was kickstarted with an accomplishment. An internal air-punch. A #WINNING moment.

2. Drink Tim’s “Titanium Tea”.

Not only does this miracle beverage taste like heaven, but it’s just so, so good for you. It’s packed with turmeric; abundant in endless health benefits. It’s literally a formula for success! Embrace the power of simplicity – I use a simple tea infuser from iHerb, and make it in the cups.

3. 20 Minutes of Meditation

I quickly made meditation a morning staple, however, as soon as I combined it with the aforementioned rituals, I was so energised each and every day. I would also highly recommend the Headspace app if you’re new to meditation, or enjoy the guidance of a pro.

4. 5-Minute Journaling

I must confess – while I don’t always bother with this particular ritual in the morning, it is a wonderful thing to get stuck into morning and evening. I follow Tim’s suggested prompts:

You’ll be surprised just how big an impact such a small act can have. I am walking proof. I feel more positive and confident; and my daily affirmations keep my energy at its peak throughout the day.

The “I am grateful for…” tips helped me strive for more each day, instead of regurgitating the same-old-same-old. Maybe you’re grateful for an old relationship that shaped you, a new opportunity that defines you, the fact that you have a job, a family, a home – even something as simple as a cup of coffee. If it makes you feel good, it should make you feel grateful!

5. “Push” yourself further!

One of the best parts of my morning ritual is doing push-ups. Ten of them for a fresh burst of energy, pushing me into the day with newfound confidence. I know it doesn’t qualify as a workout, but it breathes morning-life into my body, gets my heart pumping, and prepares me to tackle the day with fearlessness.

Overall, would I recommend Tim’s morning rituals? Most definitely! Can I do this every day? Yes! Combining small, healthy habits helps you to break old negative ones whilst putting you into the positive mindset needed to transform your life from the inside out.
